North Shoreview is a public Montessori school in San Mateo, California, offering preschool, elementary, and middle-school programs. We are part of the San Mateo-Foster City School District and a member of the American Montessori Society. As a public magnet school, we offer an alternative curriculum designed to meet all California state educational standards.

Nourishing NSM

We wanted to let you know about a wonderful program at our school to teach our kids about gardening and food called Nourishing NSM.  The reason the program was created was to address food insecurity and it was inspired by the documentary film “A place at the table”. The goal is to educate our children about nourishment and value of food.  Several students don't have three meals a day and we need to help and educate them and the other students to see how they can help themselves.

For Earth Day a Harvest Dinner is planned that will feature mostly foods from our gardens; for

example, we might feature harvested and canned tomatoes. Parents are encouraged to bring food presented in

the Harvest of the Month Potluck (see http://www.harvestofthemonth.cdph.ca.gov/ for program information).   Stay tuned for more information!
